THE CHALENGE

To create a single expansive learning ecosystem that meets the needs of multiple functions and users

Cleveland Clinic has a passion for creating rich, immersive, and community-based learning experiences and needed technology that would help them expand their portfolio of solutions. Totara provided the technology, but they needed a partner to help them make the most out of the solution.

They needed to consolidate 14 different learning platforms across corporate and academic functions into a single platform—one that is flexible enough to support future migrations from acquired or merged organizations.

Cleveland Clinic also needed to meet the unique needs of many constituent organizations across a complex and varied user landscape—ranging from the medical and internal health science schools to corporate compliance and caregiver development.

HOW DID THEY DO IT?

Cleveland Clinic partnered with Kineo to create a fully integrated, flexible learning ecosystem.

Platform migration

Migrating users from 14 different LMS and other LMS like platforms to a single platform, “My Learning at CCF”, the central hub of learning, built on our Talent Experience Platform, across the organization.

Seamless user-journeys

Integrating Totara with 17 other systems using robust APIs and open system architecture to create a seamless user journey.

THE SOLUTION

Freedom to integrate and grow

Kineo Totara TXP is one of many learning technologies deployed at Cleveland Clinic. To get the most out of these systems, they needed to create a seamless user journey across all systems. Thanks to Totara’s robust APIs and open system architecture, My Learning at CCF has been integrated with 17 other systems to allow a user-friendly journey between all systems.

Kineo’s managed services supported Cleveland Clinic to migrate users from 14 different LMS and other LMS-like platforms into one central hub of learning using our Talent Experience Platform.

The platform, called My Learning at CCF, has allowed Cleveland to create one central hub for all users to learn while allowing them the needed space to expand as they grow.

Freedom to learn and innovate

Cleveland Clinic has designed and developed solutions that meet the unique needs of continuing education and medical schools’ capstone requirements. Using Totara’s expansive set of learning activities they could empower learners, teachers, and trainers to design and deploy learning solutions for a diverse audience including medical students, doctors, nurses, corporate employees, and more.

This solution required creating a custom application for scheduling multiple learners to multiple small group sessions occurring concurrently. The sessions have varying capacity and frequency based on the topic and instructor availability, and the application has a real-time dashboard for both learners and instructors.

Freedom to personalize and measure

With such an in-depth learning ecosystem, Cleveland Clinic still wanted each user to feel like their learning journey was about them. So, they took full advantage of Kineo’s managed services and got dedicated support and guidance to create a fully personalized learning experience.

They now also enjoy a system that handles their detailed data set, catering to over 70,000 employees and tens of thousands of affiliates, partners, vendors, and students. Using Kineo’s HR Sync and clever data structures, they can now support the import of data feeds from nine unique HR and onboarding systems—producing over 100,000 records and updating or adding over 50,000 records per day!

THE RESULTS

An expansive learning platform providing learning solutions for a diverse audience

Cleveland Clinic has been on a six-year journey with Kineo, since implementing Kineo Totara TXP, Cleveland Clinic has increased LMS-based delivery and capture of continuing education credits from several hundred completions in 2016 to over 250,000 in 2021. The foundation now processes over 100,000 user records daily, containing up to 62 unique demographic fields from nine different source systems. They’ve also created dashboards with Zoola and Tableau and deployed over 100 custom dashboards to the enterprise.

Cleveland Clinic has also reduced their annual spend on learning technology by approximately 70%, from a combined total of over $1.1 million to roughly $350k! They are also the only medical center in the US with a unified LMS for all corporate, academic, and commercial education requirements.

“I don’t want to use any variation of the word simple, because delivering such a large volume of content to an audience of our size is still a very difficult task. But, Kineo has provided us the opportunity to streamline this process to a degree that we did not think was possible when we started this journey in 2015.

Through the flexibility of the platform, as well as the support of our partner, Kineo, we have been able to accomplish some pretty impressive things over the past five years, with many more things to come.”
