The events of 2020 saw the concept of compliance gain even more attention across businesses. Some business leaders may not have given the idea of compliance much thought in the past but, with social distancing and contract tracing rules in effect, suddenly every business faced the potential to be in the spotlight if they failed to comply. This served as an unmissable reminder that organisations are responsible for ensuring staff members comply with all relevant legislation and quality requirements.

This extends well beyond pandemic-related requirements. Businesses in all industries need to demonstrate compliance with a broad range of requirements. Ensuring each employee is aware of their obligations and equipped with the tools and knowledge to comply is every business’s responsibility.

In 2021, organisations are paying particular attention to upskilling workers in key areas. This includes providing digital learning so learners can complete courses from any location at a time that suits them.

At Kineo, the top four searched-for courses are:

1. Bullying and harassment

Long gone are the days when cases of bullying or harassment could be simply swept under the carpet. Organisations committed to providing a safe workplace are showing zero tolerance for inappropriate behaviour by employees and managers alike. With company reputations well and truly on the line in cases of bullying or harassment, every organisation is well-advised to revisit their bullying and harassment policies and training. Whether for employees or for managers and supervisors, this training aims to make workplaces safer for everyone.

Based on Australian legislation and endorsed by the NSCA Foundation, this course was developed in conjunction with commercial law firm, Thomson Geer, experts in employment, workplace relations, and safety.

After completing this course, learners will know how to identify bullying or harassing behaviour and what to do if they or a colleague are being bullied or harassed.

2. Basic life support

With the threat posed by COVID-19, understanding how to provide emergency lifesaving treatment is essential. Healthcare professionals need to refresh this training periodically to ensure they’re up to date on the latest best practices for emergency situations, including dealing with unconscious patients.

For many healthcare professionals, refresher training simply reinforces or repeats knowledge they already have. Kineo’s courses include intelligent adaptics that test existing knowledge before delivering the course. Then, the course is automatically modified to only include the information that needs to be refreshed, so learners don’t have to sit through the same information time and time again. This rewards existing knowledge and presents learners with new information.

Kineo’s basic life support course is endorsed by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) and is designed to be consistent with the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) guidelines.

3. Hand hygiene for healthcare workers

Hand hygiene has emerged as the number one way to combat the transmission of COVID-19. As a result of improved hand hygiene (along with social distancing and widespread wearing of masks), other diseases like the common cold and flu were significantly reduced in 2020. Even as the COVID-19 vaccine is rolled out, the importance of hand hygiene will remain, especially for healthcare workers who, by the very nature of their job, work with vulnerable and ill people.

Understanding the basics of hand hygiene forms a crucial part of the ongoing professional training for healthcare workers. Kineo’s course focuses on all staff members working in healthcare settings and is a quick, comprehensive way to remind people how to perform hand hygiene and when to use sanitiser versus soap and water. It’s also endorsed by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA).

4. Fire awareness and extinguisher training

Most Australians are well aware of the significant risk posed by fires. With our country regularly decimated by bushfires, house fires are also prevalent. A recent study found that house fires kill more Australians than all natural hazards combined, and many of these fires were preventable.

Another study found that, in the workplace, less than half of building occupants felt confident in how to operate a fire extinguisher and more than half of the people who did operate a fire extinguisher did so incorrectly or dangerously. And, only 13 per cent of people were aware that different types of extinguishers needed to be used on different types of fires and that using the wrong one could be dangerous.

Kineo’s fire awareness and extinguisher training aims to improve these numbers by teaching workers how to respond to a fire emergency, including using emergency equipment such as extinguishers, fire blankets, and hose reels. It’s endorsed by the NSCA Foundation and was developed in partnership with Chubb.
